Safety information of natural cosmetic ingredients

With the popularity of “Naturalism” in cosmetics, the use of natural ingredients is on the rapid rise. However, safety information is less than sufficient in most of the cases.

In this study, we provided a comprehensive safety information on seven commonly used natural cosmetic ingredients, which includes general information, in vitro alternative animal testing results, human application data, microsomal and pesticide contamination data etc. Mulbery bark, common purselane (pigweed), jiaogulan, peony root, angelica, mandarine orange peel and rice did not show skin and eye irritation properties and were free of microbial, heavy metal and pesticide contamination. In may need further analysis, to determine whether some of these ingredients have sensitization potential.
