Uneven pigmentation is one of the major changes associated with skin aging. Here, we show that dermal fibroblasts senesce in aging pigmented skin.

Our data may provide an integrated view of how fibroblasts in the aged microenvironment contribute to skin pigmentation, offering new paradigms for the design of therapies with which to treat aging-associated pigmentation.
