200 exhibitors and up to 50 new companies all confirmed at-show in reflection of the country’s thriving cosmetic market

April: The growing importance of Korea in the international cosmetic industry has seen in-cosmetics Korea grow year-on-year, with 2017 set to be the biggest event in its 3-year history.

Over 200 exhibitors are expected to showcase the latest in cosmetic and personal care innovation when it opens on 20-22 June, marking the evolution of an exhibition which has progressed as quickly as the market it serves. Recent Mintel research reveals that South Korea now ranks in the top 10 global beauty markets and boasts a cosmetics sphere estimated at over USD$13 billion, confirming the vast significance of K-beauty to the global cosmetic market.

This year, in-cosmetics Korea – which takes place at COEX in Seoul – will welcome more of the world’s top 20 ingredient suppliers as exhibitors than ever before, including AzkoNobel, Clariant, Croda, Dow Chemical and DSM Nutritional Products. Several major companies including Evonik, Lubrizol and SEPPIC will also be returning after an absence in 2016, taking the number of top 20 ingredient suppliers to 67% more than last year.

In addition to returning companies, up to 50 new exhibitors will make their debut at the event in June. Over half of these (60%) are set to be from countries outside of Korea – including China, France, Germany, Singapore, Switzerland, India and Japan – and are expected to bring forward-thinking and exciting products to the exhibition when it opens its doors. Indeed, according to Mintel, “Innovation in this nation is fast-paced - consumers are highly engaged and don’t hesitate to adopt novel products delivering new beauty experiences”, making in-cosmetics Korea the perfect launch pad for new beauty and personal care ingredients.

Below is just a snapshot of the exhibitors making their debut:

• French-based ALDIVIA® eco-designs natural based cosmetic ingredients by combining plant diversity with innovation. It prides itself on the ethical sourcing of raw materials with organic and fairtrade certifications, its green chemistry implementation and respect of BioTrade principles.

• Korea-based Athena specialises in biotechnology in active ingredients and valuable substances from medical plants, seaweeds and marine organisms for safe and healthy beauty. Athena cultivates medical herbs and marine organisms at its own plantation and seaweed farm in JeCheon.

Contipro is a Czech company that produces bioactive compounds for pharmaceutical industries as well as cosmetic ingredients with strong anti-ageing results. Contipro is a world leading manufacturer of sodium hyaluronate and its derivatives.

• German-based Cosphatec specialises in cosmetic raw materials. Production, distribution as well as research and development of substances such as antioxidants, active ingredients, self-preserving systems or emulsifiers is its passion and so is the area of alternative preservation.

Katyani Exports is an Indian company that manufactures and exports essential oils and allied products. It prides itself on gaining certifications ranging from ISO 9001: 2005 to GMP Certified, Spice Board, India USFDA Registered and Organic certification.

• Mumbai-based Salicylates and Chemicals supplies a complete range of preservatives and sunscreen chemicals for different applications in the cosmetic industry such as baby products, wipes, shampoos, creams, oral care lotions, lipsticks and body wash.

• Located in Scotland, The Secrets of Caledonia is a sister company of The Garden of Natural Solution, a leading supplier and researcher of natural cosmetic ingredients. Taking advantage of Scotland's vast history of herbal remedies and biodiversity, the company provides European natural ingredients.

• Based in China, SOHO ANECO Chemicals has over 10 years’ experience in the field of personal care and home care. It offers quality Chinese-origin including mild surfactants, active substances, specialty chemicals and custom-made products.

HCT – Hair Cosmetic Technology – is a Swiss company that focuses on the development of new dye bases (creams, gels, liquids, powder dyes) and colour shades for permanent, demi-permanent and temporary colorants.
